The Iowa Hawkeyes wrestling program has a storied history dating back to the early 1900s. The team has won 23 NCAA team championships and has had over 150 individual NCAA champions. Some of the most notable wrestlers in the program's history include Royce Alger, Ed and Lou Banach, Barry Davis, Joe Williams, Lincoln McIlravy and current Hawkeye Spenser Lee. The team has also produced many successful coaches, including Gable, who led the team to 15 NCAA championships during his tenure as head coach. The Hawkeyes Wrestling team is one of the most successful programs in NCAA history, and is consistently ranked among the top teams in the country.
